I’ve been a whistleblower myself.  I saw something illegal going on at my job and didn’t know what to do about it.  So, I sat with it—with the fear, anxiety, and stress that comes along with knowing that something illegal is going on without consequence—until it was just too much to bear.  It wasn’t until I learned that the law protects—and in many instances compensates—people who blow the whistle and speak up that I finally found the wherewithal to report what I was seeing.
